Ooooh, it’s the month of love! While it provides the perfect excuse to eat massive amounts of heart-shaped chocolates and wear pink without the guilt, for me, it’s more than celebrating a relationship status. It’s a time of appreciation for God, my family, friends, staff, and my work.
I fell in love with property in 2005 when I first became an independent estate agent for a franchise. After being nominated as the Top Agent within three months of the job, I realised that I genuinely love real estate. I then went on to buy my first real estate franchise two years later, and I’ve never looked back since.
Here are five reasons why:
- Continuous development. Although the industry doesn’t discriminate based on previous work experience or educational background, it provides a wide range of continuous development programmes to better equip you in the field.
- Tangibility. You can feel, touch, smell your investment.
- Adaptability. You can buy, sell, lease, rent to buy – there are so many options to get a real return on investment.
- Connecting with clients at a deep level. Helping them make a life-changing decision gives me immense satisfaction.
- Days are never the same. Between putting out fires, signing offers to purchase, and being a relationship counsellor when partners can’t agree – my days are far from boring.
While I can’t say running a property group doesn’t have its set of challenges, I find it fulfilling. And as with most successful relationships – they don’t work unless you do. To be successful in this industry you need dedication, perseverance and tenacity. I’m blessed to have a partner, Thulasizwe Mthwa, who is not only my husband but the COO of Idwala Property Group, as well as a fantastic team which is skilled at their work. These individuals help me live out my purpose, and I'm grateful.
